- 程度:C1–C2(高級和熟練)
用「account for」代替「explain」或用「stem from」代替「come from」顯示了對英語的高級掌握。

當你把「stem from」、「account for」和「hinge on」放在一起學習時,你正在建立一個學術討論工具包。
找出每個「because」、「explains」和「shows」——現在用「stems from」、「accounts for」和「points to」重寫。

「Account for」和「account to」意思不同。
「She came up against a problem」是正確的。「She came a problem up against」是無意義的。

像「account for」、「stem from」、「point to」和「rule out」這樣的片語動詞在學術寫作中完全可以接受。在正式文章中避免非正式的:「figure out」(用「determine」)、「come up with」(用「devise」)或「get across」(用「convey」)。
B2片語動詞在日常對話中很常見:「give up」、「look after」、「put off」、「take up」。C1片語動詞更具體且細微:「stem from」、「hinge on」、「phase out」、「home in on」。
