“Good” nunca é bom o suficiente na escrita acadêmica. Tampouco é “bad”, “big”, “a lot”, “thing” ou “get”.

“Good” vira effective, beneficial, advantageous. “Bad” vira detrimental, adverse, problematic. “A lot of” vira numerous, substantial, considerable.

1. Precisão. “Good” pode significar 50 coisas diferentes. “Effective” significa que funciona. “Beneficial” significa que ajuda. “Valid” significa que é logicamente sólido. Cada sinônimo estreita o significado.

2. Formalidade. A escrita acadêmica segue um registro formal. “Get” é informal; “obtain” é formal. “Show” é neutro; “demonstrate” é acadêmico. Usar o registro errado prejudica sua credibilidade.

3. Variedade.

The results were surprising” → “The findings exceeded initial expectations”).
